UPDATE: A friend is lending me the series! yay! Does anyone own Sopranos Season 1? Believe it or not I have never seen this show… and I know I could Netflix it, but I just thought I’d see if anyone here local owns it & wouldn’t mind me borrowing it off your shelf for a little while.

Lastnight I actually went to sleep a tad later (3am) than my usual bedtime (2am), but for some reason I woke up at 8am this morning & felt wide awake, so here I am! The one good thing about it is I’ll actually hear Ted’s Friday Live Show *start*! :)

I actually climbed into bed around 2, but got really into reading my latest issue of BUST.

I recently spoke with a mac user who said she doesn’t use Firefox. I mean, not only doesn’t use, but hasn’t even downloaded it! Well, you at least have to download & try it! :)

Thing is she’s on a mac, so at least she’s using Safari… but even still for design and general usability purposes, I think it’s key to have an alternative browser. And on the mac, specifically, one that is NOT i.e. (because they’re no longer updating/maintaining i.e. for mac! and it’s horrible!).

If you have/use Firefox currently, this is to alert you to the v.1.5 upgrade. It’s an update that you should go download, as its upgrade checker won’t notify you of the new release (or at least mine didn’t).

Firefox is fantastic for a lot of reasons. Right now I’ve actually gone back to using Safari primarily, but I open up Firefox to do things I can’t do in Safari almost every day. With this upgrade I might just switch back for awhile.

If you’re on a PC though, you MUST download & start using it (IMHO). Experience tab browsing and a browser that actually supports the standards (HTML, CSS, XHTML, etc) SO well. If you’re confused at all that – don’t worry, just download it… it’s FREE!

Also you’ll be making all of us web developers happy because Firefox is actually delightfully correct and predictable, unlike some of the old/outdated browsers out there that small percentage of you are using and therefore cause the majority of us to still have to check them & tear our hair out as to why X problem isn’t working. (again, i.e. is pretty horrible in this department, as well as any old netscape browsers – please get rid of those!!)

Gotta love it when you spend a good 30-40 minutes on a post – and everything’s linked up perfect… you’ve reviewed & edited here & there… and you’re all set… you hit publish and POOF! It’s gone. Not published, not saved anywhere, nothing. ug.

It’s my own fault really… I have used Ecto a lot in this last year, but recently there’s some bug (a gut-wrenching, horribly flawed bug) that does this very thing. Takes it, acts like it’s posting it and then simply deletes it and acts like nothing’s wrong. If it were in front of me, I’d grab it by the shirt, push it against the wall and ask it to empty it’s pockets & give me my post back, dammit.

I knew I should have simply selected & copied before I hit publish, because I knew it had been behaving this way. So in the end it’s my own stupid fault! blah, aren’t the mistakes we make just the very worst kind?

Anyway. You would have gotten a really great post yesterday, but I just didn’t have the heart a the time to muster it all up again. I’ll attempt it later today.

UPDATE: My post on the Ecto forums was responded to (Thanks Joe, I hadn’t received an email notifying me of it) and I implemented their recommended fix & it seems to be working now.

SIDENOTE: Besides this wacky problem I had temporarily, Ecto is a fantastic blogging tool! It saves me a ton of time, and after trying a couple different apps like this, I recommend this one!

One year ago I had Wavefront Lasik done and there’s hardly a day that goes by that I’m not completely in awe that I can see w/o contacts or glasses!! woohoo!!

I’m SUPER swamped this week… I pretty much worked all weekend and this week has been work, work, work + trying to fit in a few hours for my home study portion of my PADI Scuba Certification! Tonite’s the class, and I have to admit I’m a little scared I have to get in a bikini. hahhaa. Thank goodness we’ll most likely be wearing wetsuits, too. Doing the classes is reminding me of the few intro/day dives I have done (first in Maui (2000) & then Puerto Vallarta (2003)). I’m so excited!! Plus, now I won’t have to deal w/ thinking about my contacts! woohooo!

Tonite there’s a kick ass FREE SHOW goin on: Hijack the Disco (headlining – and you know I heart them bigtime), Sabrosa Purr (awesome new band Ted turned me onto), and The Otherside (another excellent local band whose s/t ’05 release is rad!). Plus the best DJ ever will be spinning between sets!

If you live in the Bay Area, come check it out! I’ll be there as soon as I’m done breathing underwater. :)

We were waaaaaay up in the balcony, so all of my photos are pretty far away. These two shots above are cropped in on a few of them, but the ones in the album aren’t cropped like this… but you get the idea, right? :)

Besides being far away, it was really wonderful to see her live. I absolutely love the more “cute” sound she has on Extraordinary Machine (the song)… it’d be interesting to hear her do an album more like Joanna Newsom, or Nellie McKay. However, I realize as soon as I think that, that it would no longer be Fiona! Anyway, she was very sweet and real, which is always refreshing. Listening to her songs, and hearing her talk about what prompted her to write them, reminds me that we’re all human… we all fuck up & have heartache… and we’re all just trying to figure out how to put one foot in front of the other, not care so much about what other people think of us, and move on with our lives. It was great to see my girls Jem & Tania, the other apples! :) and p.s. thanks again for scoring us tix!

Thanksgiving was such a blast! My friends Ted & Misty hosted a super fun day at their house and I was so happy to be surrounded by them, Hez & Ali – all of which have been great friends this year. We ate lots of yummy food, tried to play a game, ate more food (pie! yumm!) & have some hilarious memories. Good times!
