Happy Halloween!

Unfortunately, this is the most pumpkin carving I’ve done this year, but it’s pretty cool! I carved 3 or 4 different designs (forgetting to take screenshots before I cleared them unfortunately), all for the low low price of 20 minutes! :p

Go carve a pumpkin!

:::::

This is completely random, but I saw it this morning on the same site I discovered the pumpkin carving site and thought it was funny.

costumes + drinks + dancing = a kick ass halloween!

OMG we had SO much fun lastnight! Ali came over around 6:30 and we started putting our costumes together. I had originally planned to be a superhero version of myself: WONDER WILLOOOOO!!!!! But I slacked yesterday & didn’t go buy any costume accessories (cape and/or a mask) and soon found that the clothes around my house thrown together wouldn’t look any different than an average Mission hipster sighting. SO that was out & I went digging in the closet for another idea. Once I went looking for my fake eyelashes I found something else I’d bought with them: a fake mustache! perfect! And just like that, my costume came together:

My shirt says “Free Mustache Rides”. Unfortunately no pretty ladies took me up on my generous offer. hahaa :) Like my homemade belt buckle? Thanks to Hez for the bandana, too, it was the finishing touch!

We met up with the crew at Doc’s Clocks for a drink, and then headed over to 12 Galaxies. At first it was a little thin, but thankfully the place filled up and we all had a blast dancing. The DJ sucked a few glaring/annoying times (Misty how is it that detail wasn’t in your post!? < which you should all read, she has a great summary of the night, too!) which was lame and made us all wish Ted was up there… but I was glad he was partying with us instead.

There were a ton of fun costumes! My friends were sportin some especially kick ass ones: Misty was Jem!, from Jem & the Holograms – she even had the sayings down, “Truly Outrageous!” which cracked me up & took me back! I used to watch that show all the time. Her microphone prop was the best! Ted “worked for” the Grim Reaper, Ali was an 80’s superhero: Toootallyyy Aaawwesoomme! hilarious! Lyne showed up as a geeky bride who got left at the altar and (understandably) headed straight to the bar. haha! Seriously though, her dress was amazing! Jojo was a hot CHIPS-like cop, writing tickets to everyone all night. haha! Hez was a vampire and her bf, Negmeddin was Mr. T in full effect! He shaved his head for it, too, which is SO RAD!! He’s a keeper, Hez.

Here’s a link to the album of photos!

Costume parties make people watching extra fun. One we all admired & commented on from afar was someone dressed up as Edward Scissorhands. It was done so well! Later when a few of us piled on stage for the costume contest and I was standing next to that person, I realized it was this girl Holly I know! hah!! So funny. We saw Loquat’s Anthony (dressed up as a cowboy, too!) & Kylie (little indian girl) and I was stoked when Chris & Mai showed up, too!

Overall it was a very fun halloween & I’m so stoked we all rallied & made it happen! I love my friends!!

motivation

Man, it’s finally Saturday and I just want to do nothing! I’ve had such a busy week, let alone MONTH! It’s tough to even think of going out tonite… can’t I just curl up with a movie? Alas, we have a crew rallied and I know it’ll be fun once we’re out & about – so I’m going to try to go for it. I know a lot of my LoM (Lack of Motivation™) is all about having to try to pull together a costume at some point today. When the list of the other things I want to complete this weekend is so huge (or feels like it anyway because I really just want a day off where I do *nothing*), it makes me cranky I have to put time towards a costume. This is so the result of stress. bah.

That said, I know it will be fun. I just heard what Jem’s costume is going to be and it’s hilarious (and disgusting!). And Ali’s is going to be awesome (literally Totally Awesome! :) and I really hope my girls Misty & Hez make it out! I hope it’s not rainy tonite again!!

OK, time to do laundry, maybe make myself a *decent* bowl of cereal – or even lunch now that it’s so late, and try to knock some of these things off my to do list today. And THEN figure out this costume deal. It’ll come together… I’m just venting.

cereal killer

ug. remind me to never buy cereal in the health food isle again. it looked so promising… strawberries in it just like Special K Red Berries (my absolute fav), high protein, low sugar… but as you have probably guessed by now: IT SUCKS. Hi, my cereal tastes like CARDBOARD. eeewww. And there’s hardly any strawberries in it. The bowl is sitting next to me now uneaten. It’s that bad.

I’ll stick w/ my Special K Red Berries from now on, thank you very much!

i hate bedtime

Sure, some nights I cannot wait to hit the pillow. But honestly, most nights I have this child inside of me that whines, “aaaaawwww, do I haaaaaave to?”.

I feel like having to sleep is just such a bummer. It means I have to stop doing all the productive late night activities that I’m knee deep in (or could be knee deep in if I knew I didn’t have to go to bed soon!). I love the late hours of the night. Nobody is bothering me, everything’s quiet. It’s finally just me, alone in my sweet little home doing whatever I feel like (most of the time, anyway. sometimes i am up late on a deadline, and sometimes bed is a tad more inviting then ;).

Doing things late at night makes me feel like I’m fitting in all this extra productive time. Sneaking it in… cheating the daylight hours… like the more I can squeeze in at night before the whole next day starts all over again, the better. Right now I just wish I could watch a movie. I’ve already gone to a show, but now that I’m home I just want some chill time. Sometimes I actually try to chill in front of the TV and watch some TiVo, but I find myself literally fighting to keep my eyes open. Just like a little kid… I’m tired, but I refuse to give in! haha

Alas… it’s about that time again. The time where in order to be functional at a decent hour tomorrow, I *have* to go to bed. hmph.

My strategy lately has been to sooth myself into the idea of bedtime by taking a hot shower (with only candlelight). OMG I cannot tell you how much I love my late night hot showers. I really, really, really love them and there’s hardly a night that goes by I don’t think about how incredibly grateful I am to live in a country where I can just take a hot shower whenever I want. It’s perfect because I get all warm and sleepy….. and then I’m actually *ready* for bed! :)

Tomorrow’s another day!

posting fog

wow, tonite i completely kept thinking “i wonder if I ever hit publish on that blog post?” wondering if it was finished & out there or not. totally mirroring lastnight’s weird vanishing post wtf feeling. anyway – i DIDN’T post it early after all & of course it was sitting here waiting for me, so I just posted it (see previous post “rock pumpkin”). gah… today was SUCH a busy day.

Bonuses however were that I got a TON done, which *always* feels good, I think I even got a raise on a certain project I’ve been putting time into for several years (something I’ve been thinking about with some of my other clients – needing to renegotiate contracts) and I got to see a rockin show with a good friend. RAD!

OK, that’s all I’ve got for you… I need to chill. at home. NOT on the computer. and then I sleep. byeeeee!!

rock pumpkin!

I carved this 2 years back. I wanted to have a pumpkin carving party this last weekend (or at least a craft party), but neither happened and instead I slept & worked all weekend.

:::

I posted something really late lastnight and now it’s totally disappeared like I dreamt it! WEIRD! Did anyone see it? It was pretty random… a list of things on my desk, that fill in what’s up in my life.

One of the items is the Scuba School Registration form for the Diving class I just signed up for! My Mom & I are boycotting Steamboat’s freezing cold white Christmas, and instead we’re diving in Cozumel! woohoo! I’ve gone diving before & absolutely loved it – so I’m stoked to get certified. My Mom has been for years. This trip has GOT to be better than last year’s Bahama’s cruise! It will be, my Mom & I (and in general my family for the most part) are doing a bit better than 11 months ago.

PGMG was postponed lastnight so I worked on this illustration project all day and into the night. It was SO FUN! Amazing how time consuming illustration is (and doesn’t pay as well), but I was delighted to get back into it. At first I couldn’t control my hand and Monday night went to bed very frustrated and in a big whirlpool of crankiness and self-loathing. haha! But come lastnight I was on a roll, and the practice had made the artist in me rekindle it’s relationship with my extremities and all was right with the world!

What are you going to be for halloween?

this sweet life

This last week has been CHOCK full of shows. So often at a show I am blogging madly in my head, wanting so badly to capture all my thoughts on a little mind-tape-recorder. Alas, by the time I get home I hit the pillow, 7 hours later wake up to a busy work day, eat somewhere in between, hurry & get ready to go out & it starts all over again! :) Tough life I live, eh?

Well, honestly I want to be posting so much more… but one things for sure: Thank goodness for my camera! :p It is the recorder that seems to be working most effectively these days. I would love to go into more detail about each of these photos/events/shows/etc, but guess what? I’m off to a show! haha.

Ali should be here any minute & we’re going to see [the] caseworker. So for now, once again, my life in pictures:

music wraps me in a suit

I am so in love w/ the song Mr. November by The National!!

Iron & Wine AND Calexico played… both individually & together and it was sooooo beautiful.

Tonite I watched Ebb & Flow, reminding me of some of the fierceness Von Iva’s lead – but something else, all it’s own. I liked it. Totally different than I expected, which made it interesting.

It was fun to see everyone out… the Birdmonster boys, Ted, John. AND prior to the show Misty, Hez, Ali, Derek & I went out to dinner at Bissap Boababababaaaaa… b. It was pretty yum!

2nd band tonite: Hijack the Disco. My boys. They’re so cute & SO GOOD. Tonite Ali & I concurred they sounded VERY good. They’re a band that isn’t afraid to evolve. All their new stuff is going to be AWESOME! They’re such a joy to watch. I was laughing tonite, what is this my 20th or so time seeing them? (seriously, it’s probably more than that. haha!)

OK – Third band: Heavenly States – I know! What a line-up! I agree. Smashing, smashing show.

And now what’s playing: (hahaa… do I want to admit this?) Dashboard Confessional’s “Ender WIll Save Us All”. Do you know it? Are you a DC FAN?! If so please comment.

TOMORrrow (ok, that’s an example of the bad side of my new keyboard. The caps key sticks! LAME!) will be Ali & I’s 4th show this week: Nada Surf w/ Say Hi To Your Mom @ Bimbo’s. I’m stoked it’s at Bimbo’s, too – not a bad venue at. all.

However, I apologize for LAGGING on getting my photos up. Do you know, I seriously have like 550 photos to wade through. A daunting task, but I will persevere!

xoxo
