Every once and awhile I hear this voice creep up that says, “Someone’s going to point out that you have all these problems, and who are YOU to be telling anyone how to do all of this. Look at you, you’re a total workaholic, you’re out of shape, you don’t have a boyfriend – who do you think you are!?”

And to that little mental demon I want to say 3 words: I’m not perfect. None of us are, and quite frankly I think if anything I’ve reared up against this harsh critic in some ways to show it that I can be OK with imperfection, because I’m tired of it pushing me there.

I’m well aware of my own shortcomings – why do you think I’ve been guided towards the light of creative sustainability!? Not only do I need this awareness, these reminders, this connection with others and reconnection to my self, but I realize the dire need in our world. I have dear friends who I see suffering through long hours and – despite all of their hard work – a deep fear of inadequacy.

I don’t claim to have all the answers, nor do I claim to be the shining example that people can put on a pedestal and say, “Willo’s figured it out!” But I can tell you that I’ve worked very hard, and I’ve felt the overwhelm, stress, unhealthiness, loneliness and separation that comes with being a workaholic… and thusly, I’ve done a LOT of work around what makes me happy in my life, and in my career, in effort to bring more balance into my life and more EASE into my work (work/life balance).

I feel like there’s a time in all of our lives when we stop & realize the way in which we’ve been operating is no longer serving us. And the more work you do around discovering what your true gifts are, you realize that by your not taking care of yourself in the best way you know how, you’re not able to serve others.

It starts with you.
