transformation, trial by fire

I was in my friend’s house (some random house, none that I know of theirs) on the top floor, which was a bedroom/living area I think… and my girl friend was complaining about how she couldn’t get to the bottom floor easily enough, as there was only this small crawl space you had to go through to get down there through the house and it was dirty or too small or something. I remember looking at it too & feeling really scared of it, like claustrophobic at even the thought of trying to go through it to get to the bottom floor. She said her boyfriend (now husband actually) went that way but she didn’t like it, so she chose to take the long way of putting on shoes, going outside & then down into the bottom part of the house.

I followed her downstairs initially to see it, but as we approached the kitchen doors, we realized it was on fire! (thus also making it clear how bad it was that the downstairs & upstairs were so disjointed, as without my being there she would have had no easy way to communicate this to her bf). So she told me to run upstairs & tell him & I did, immediately beginning to help him gather up as much of their personal belongings as possible.

I remember immediately asking where their photo albums were, and we tried to start packing up some clothes and stuff, but it got confusing since I didn’t know what was important for them to keep. Plus, our thoughts were scattered worrying about my friend & his gf on the bottom floor, not knowing what was happening with her or the fire….not having any sense as to how big the fire was and if either it was out already and/or if the floor was going to start falling away from the flames. It was scary!

All I remember in the end was hearing sirens come, and feeling happy that help had finally arrived. Also the biggest feeling near the end was being afraid the floor was going to fall out from under me. eep!

Dreams are interesting, and this one probably has something to do with subconscious and conscious thoughts around relationships & communication… and feeling a need to save people? or being scared of digging deeper? hmm… haha. I’m definitely working on a lot of stuff within myself lately, so it makes sense. Wild!

Ooh, here’s a interpretation on dreams about fire:

Depending on the context of your dream, to see fire in your dream can symbolizes destruction, passion, desire, illumination, transformation, enlightenment, or anger. It may suggest that something old is passing and something new is entering your life. Your thoughts and views are changing. In particular, if the fire is under control or contained in one area, it is a metaphor of your own internal fire and inner transformation. It also represents your drive and motivation.

To dream that a house is on fire, indicates that you need to undergo some transformation.

Sho nuff! I’m working on it! :)

This weekend I am traveling up to Healdsburg to see yet another amazing couple tie the knot!

I know Dan from our days at Steamboat Springs High (Colorado), when he was a senior & I was a freshman. We had an art class together and I always remembered him being so sweet & supportive. A couple years ago I ran into him at a Noisepop opening party and we (him & his then girlfriend, now fiance Sarah) have been close friends ever since.

I’m excited to get out of the city for another weekend, and really looking forward to seeing Dan’s younger brother Bas, too.

Oh ya, and for any of you keeping track: Yes, this will be 4 of 5 weddings this year, and the 3rd within a month! wooo! But truely I feel blessed to have these incredibly inspiring mirrors of healthy loving relationships in my life. Bring it on! :)

let your light shine

My greatest fear is not that I am inadequate,
but that I am powerful beyond measure.

It is my light, not my darkness, that frightens me.
I ask myself,
Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, handsome, talented and fabulous?

Actually, who am I not to be?
I am a child of God.

My playing small does not serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around me.
I was born to make manifest the glory of God within me.
It is not just in some, it is in everyone.

And, as I let my own light shine,
I unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.

As I am liberated from my fear, my presence automatically liberates others.

– Marianne Williamson

I love this. It was in the movie Little Miss Sunshine & it’s been coming up in conversations around me more & more lately, so I thought I’d share it with all of you. Some people may prefer saying ‘Spirit’, ‘Source’ or ‘Higher Power’, instead of God… whatever works for you. Regardless, the message is beautiful.

The passage above is the one she converted into ‘I’ statements. Here’s the original one from her book:

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.

It is our light not our darkness that most frightens us.

We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous,
talented and fabulous?

Actually, who are you not to be?

You are a child of God.

Your playing small does not serve the world.

There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other
people won’t feel insecure around you.

We were born to make manifest the glory of
God that is within us.

It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone.

And as we let our own light shine,
we unconsciously give other people
permission to do the same.

As we are liberated from our own fear,
Our presence automatically liberates others.

– Marianne Williamson

Note: Many have been led to believe this is a quote from Nelson Mandela, because he once used this in a speech, but in fact it originated in Marianne Williamson‘s 1992 book A Return To Love: Reflections on the Principles of “A Course in Miracles”.

shop homepage revamped!

Visit the WilloToons Shop!

I’ve been meaning to do this for weeks now & am SO stoked it’s done now! Before I just had a random spattering of products on there, and it desperately has needed categories. Many people didn’t even realize I had jewelry!

Also, below the product categories, I now have featured some of the other cool things the WilloToons shop has to offer… like the (free) custom cloth packaging on every order, how most orders are only $5, and the custom cut tutorial!

This whole week is dedicated to solely working on my shop, and I am loving it!

work is painfully noisy lately

MacBook Pro sounds like it’s dying from willotoons and Vimeo.

Watching the video clip above will give you a small window into the agonizing sound my MacBook Pro has been making this last month. It finally got so bad here recently that about twice a day I was having to put it to sleep just to put it out of it’s misery (and mine). Most times, however, it would either get so caught up trying to fight its way to sleep (screen going black, not quite sleeping, fan still whirring, computer not responding) that I just had to hard shut it down. Often even if it did finally go to sleep, upon waking up again it would start right back at it. ug. So annoying!

Now that I’m a master at it (because it’s no longer happening 2x/day, it’s practically all day), and sadly somehow getting slightly used to this horrific sound (kinda like listening to a baby scream & cry, knowing you just have to let it wail), I’ve realized if I can wait it out ~20 minutes it will finally go to sleep. Most importantly I don’t have to hard shut it down, potentially losing wherever I was at in my workflow. Today’s method was with a bag of frozen peas underneath. Clever, eh? (Actually it’s a bag of frozen Soycutash, which is just about the best name evar.)

Anyway, agony aside, luckily I still have my Powerbook lying around to work on when it gets out of control, so it’s not stopping productivity all together. Oh, and for those of you wondering wtf, turns out my right fan is totally dead, and therefore my left fan is on overdrive (freak out city) trying to pick up the slack. Unnecessarily so, I might add. Mr. Left fan needs to chill the f* out, but it takes pride in it’s job apparently and like the Mother who dashes the flour on her forehead for affect, he’s lettin’ me know he’s working his ass off to get the job done. So dramatic!

Also, you, my fan & myself will be happy to know, I do have a solution on the way. I’ve ordered a new fan & my friend Joe (aka Mac Genius for yours truly) will be putting it in after it arrives. I hope it does the trick! I’m really tired of listening to this horrible noise.
