10 days later…

This week’s been crazy. Monday afternoon my Powerbook’s HD crashed. Sadness! Luckily I had a full backup from the previous Wednesday, but I’d done about 4 or 5 hours on an animation on Friday night that is totally gone now. However, things could be worse, right? This is the 2nd time I’ve been able to completely restore my computer using my Retrospect backups. I frickin love that program. However having a PC as my backup computer is completely worthless if my backups are in Retrospect, so I am going to get myself a mac mini or something to use for when this crap happens again. And just use Virtual PC for the only thing I ever use my PC for anyway: Cross browser checking.

So the whole HD Crash of ’06 sucked away roughly 2-3 solid work days this week. ug. BUT fortunately I have super nice friends like Kristin & Michael who happened to have an extra G4 laying around they could lend me. YAY!! And, again due to Retrospect’s kick ass backup system, I was able to completely load on my computer to a drive of their G4 and I’m back in business. I heart mac’s for this reason. Everything’s just as it was on my powerbook… icons, bookmarks, preferences, everything. SO FRICKIN SWEET. The only thing really missing is the dual screen action I set up w/ my flat screen & the powerbook next to it, the higher MHz (this one is only 533 compared to my PB’s 1.25GHz) and the FireWire 800 ports. Good things to keep in mind as I buy a backup mac. The Mac Mini’s don’t have FW800 either, but apparently the newest ones are shipping w/ the Intel Chip.

Anyone wanna buy my supped up PC? It’s actually pretty sweet! I just have no use for the thing anymore. I’ll write up the specs here eventually, but let me know if you’re interested (interest would really help me get down to business with listing out the specs on it :p)

OK, so the next few posts are going to be my catching up from the last 10 days. :)

saying no to diamonds

I happened across this post lastnight & it is some really fascinating food for thought!

I have totally been looking forward to the day I get a diamond ring (thanks to my Mom mostly, who loves diamonds), so reading this was a serious wake up call. I love wake up calls that shed the light on what’s really going on. Very interesting reading there for sure. Thanks Paul, Anil and Wired!

pixar! (post updated)

Ted & I got a tour of Pixar on Monday! It was so fun!

Update: OK, I got to posting these photos faster than I thought. It actually happened out of something called procrastination, but shhh, don’t tell anyone. :)

Ted, Sulley & me!

Thanks for inviting us over, Gabe!!

Photos also posted from the Jenny Lewis & the Watson Twins show last Friday night!

I heart Jenny Lewis!!! I scored tix at the last minute (from a very cute boy, I might add) and was thrilled every single second to be sitting there listening to her beauuuutiful voice! Jonathan Rice, the opener and who also played guitar with her & the Watson Twins, was really good, too! And can’t forget props to the Twins & Farmer Dave.

These photos suck cuz it was super low, red lighting – but it was beautiful in person. Candles everywhere… no photos could replace the memories in my mind & heart from this awesome show!

the lovely ladies!

Vietnamese Power! a/k/a Cutest photo ever!

We ran into Mai outside as she was walking home. I love small town instances like that. yay!

Again, here’s the complete photo album from this show.

Saturday night’s show was great, too! My brother Max was in town for the SF Gift Fair (for his company, Om Gallery) with his business partner, Christopher. So we all went out to dinner w/ Mario, Holly, Ali & Ali’s friend Nick who was in town for the SF Indie Fest. The seven us dined at the new Chez Maman on Cortland & it was pretty good!

I was stoked my brother came out to the show w/ me, too. And what a line-up! The openers Lemon Sun were great – Ted had one of their songs on a compilation that I liked, but live they were really fantastic! Then my favorite boys Hijack the Disco rocked us with their kick-ass-ness!

Love these boys!

(skipping over Tartufi all together cuz I wasn’t paying attention) And then the headliners are another fav of ours, Scissors for Lefty! Who were awesome as always, and charmed a certain bad apple to the core! :) YAY!

Photos from this show are here!

uber geek

What ranks as probably one of the geekiest things I’ve ever done, is my online documentation of my CD Organization System. I just ordered new sleeves, so after 2 years I finally updated that page.

Just thought I’d let you know in case some of you never knew just how much of a dork I really am – I mean, in case you’re looking for a new organization system for yourself.

Happy Friday!

photos posted from wednesday’s rockin’ show!

Happy 3rd Birthday, Bagel Radio!

Earlier this week I helped Ted put together the file to print the very first Bagel Radio banner! I didn’t design the logo or anything, but I prepared (at one point: *wrestled*, but that’s another story) the file & sent it off to the printer, so I was all proud to see it came out so great!! :)

Birdmonster sounded EXCELLENT! I love these boys!!!

Shows are always so fun when I know a ton of people there, and lastnight was one of them! I won’t link (because it feels like it’d take forever, there’s so many!), so just for fun: Misty & Ted (of course), Jem, Ali, Hez, Jojo, Derek, Trevor, Dave, Janet, Mario, Eric, John, Lisa, Jake, Tack, Paulie, Leia, Kristin, Michael, Buzz, Cameron, Courtney, Eris, Ryan, Mark, Ted, Phil, Blair and of course all the boys in EXBF’s & Birdmonster. And I’m sure I’ve forgotten someone. Where were you? :)

I wish I could have rounded everyone up for a big group photo! :p

Misty wrote up a kick ass post about the night as well & links to her & Ted’s photos, too. yay!

Also, I just posted a few photos from Monday night when I took Lyne to the airport! SF International, no less! Lyne is traveling through Thailand for 2 whole months! wooohooo! Here she is with her big ol’ pack all ready to go!

Bon Voyage, miss Lyney-loo! Can’t wait to hear about all your adventures!

A few more pics of Lyne’s send off are in the January album.

Kick ass (and FREE!) show tonite!

Bagel Radio & DJ Ted are two of my most favorite things. Incidentally, performing at his 3rd Anniversary Celebration CAHMS show tonite are a couple of my favorite local bands!!

And since Craig & Ali said it so well on Donewaiting’s SF Foghorn:

“Wednesday night is a chance to pay homage. Very few people have done as much as Ted to promote the current indie music scene (of the Bay Area and beyond). – Craig Ness

“DJ Ted, the genius mind, heart, & soul behind BAGeL Radio, will be spinning tunes between sets and three fantastic Bay Area bands ( Birdmonster, Ex-Boyfriends, Serene Lakes) will be showing off their rawktacular goodness, for FREE no less!!! Doors are at 9:00 pm, fun party good times start at 9:01 pm. And it’s FREE people. You have no excuse – BE THERE!” – Ali Watkins (aka Spangley and my #1 show ho sistaaaaa)
