I ACTUALLY WENT TO THE EAST BAY!!!!!!

So check this out: I actually drove aaaaall the way to the East Bay lastnight!

“No Way!”

“Yes WAY!”

(I’m hoping I get some kind of medal, actually :)

For those of you not from ’round these parts you won’t know what the heck I’m talking about – but quickly I’ll just tell you that SF is directly across the bay from Oakland & Berkeley, and connected by a small little bridge called The Bay Bridge. Funny thing is, (or sad, however you may look at it) is that I never get my ass over there!! But there’s a TON of great and cool shit in the East Bay – one being The Parkway Theatre!

The Parkway is this kick ass theatre that’s huge, and instead of rows of seats, there’s tons of couches, tables, and comfy chairs. AND the best part is you get to drink beer & eat pizza while watchin the flick! So this weekend I was determined to get us over there – and we did it!

We headed over for the 9pm showing of Elf lastnight (we wanted to make the 7pm Station Agent show, but couldn’t rally fast enough). The theatre was super easy to find, too. I even ran into Lucia! who apparently lives just a few blocks away.

We ordered our pitcher of beer & 8″ pizza & headed in. Here’s a few photos even!

crazy sock lady

I love funky socks. Recently I got into a conversation w/ some people online & someone joked that we should have a “wacky sock battle” and see who’s got the funkiest socks.

Now, I do not claim to have the funkiest socks by any means – but friends who know me well, know that I love wearing the ones that I have and envy others I see on lucky feet. So I rose to the challenge… and now I present to you a small selection of Willo’s Wacky Socks.

Happy New Year!!

Was your New Years as off the hook as mine?

We started out the night w/ dinner at Tin Pan (*yum!*)… and then went for a drink at Lucky 13, where we met Nolan & Jen from Seattle. Then we hit the Lovemakers, Vue, Persephone’s Bees show where we ran into Elaine and a bunch of other folks. THEN we hit Jess’ party and surprised them all. We had to take 2 buses to get there and were drenched when we arrived. It was awesome to see everyone – and we closed down the party around 2:30 or so. So fun to see Ali & Carter, too! And THEN we went to a kickin party in the mission – where we ran into Kat! WHAT A NIGHT!!!

We had one hell of a good time…. here’s the photos to prove it.

Let’s hear it for a rockin 2004!!!!!

xoxo

My new toy!!!

So check THIS out. Rick & I are exchanging presents and first of all – hilariously we got eachother the same DVD. We both knew we’d love it as we both think the Tenacious D CD is hilarious, and we saw School of Rock together. I even TIVO’d the episode* where Jack Black had a camio on Will & Grace and saved it to show Rick. Did you see it? It was hilarious!!

* God LOVE the internet – it’s right here for you to watch! Scroll down to the bottom of the page & you’ll see two WMP links – click the one that says “Karen visits Dr. Hershberg.” (Jack Black plays the Dr.) And be sure to watch the whole thing – it gets good about 1/2 way through. :)

So, as I’m opening my next prezzie – I see the box and hardly think anything of it – cuz there’s no way he actually…

… oh wait…

….opening the box…

….seeing the manuals… oh my gawd!

Yes, that’s right. He bought me this beautiful new toy:

Isn’t it AWESOME!?!? You may know this camera from it’s impressive boast of actually being “so small it fits in an Altoid tin”!! Check it out!

So talk about a guy who listens – aren’t I a lucky girl!? I had been telling Rick since I met him that I wanted a smaller camera to take out w/ me to parties & shows. Here after months of hanging out with me, Rick had only seen my camera (the awesome Nikon 5700) like once or twice since I barely brought it out. It’s just too big & expensive to risk dropping it, losing it or getting it stolen. So, low and behold – Rick surprises me with this Pentax OptioS4!!

And it’s AWESOME! So small that I just LOVE that I can take it anywhere with me. And it’s got some incredibly kick ass features for how small it is!! Here’s some highlights:

  • Smaller than the size of an average credit card and just over 3/4-inch thick. Weighs just 3.5 ounces!
  • 4 megapixel(!) with a built in 3x Pentax zoom lens (which delightfully retracts into the slim body when camera is off)
  • Records up to 60 secs of video with audio – AND has a speaker to play it back!! This is actually one of the coolest features – cuz not only can you watch the movie back – but it records the movie data really fast – and pulls it up to play really fast… and then acts as a little mini VCR where you can actually pause and scan rewind/fast forward! So cool!!

I love it & have snapped a gazillion photos over the last week with it. Wanna see? (I’ll post videos some time in the next week)

Here’s some other reviews & photos of the camera, too, if you’re curious:

Anyway – I better start getting ready for tonite… and yup, you guess it – I’ll be snappin a few photos with my new camera! wahoo!!!

Happy New Year everybody!!

hello to you on the last day of 2003

well. how does it feel?

the big question really is: Are you ready to party!?

I don’t usually get all hyped up for these “you must party and have a good time” holidays. (ergo halloween. (is that the right use of “ergo”?))

However, tonite is going to be a blast!! Almost guaranteeeed… cuz of 3 things:

1. My freshly stocked bar.

Actually it’s more for Friday night, cuz my bro’s coming into town (wahoo!) And like a good sister, I better have a Stoli-tonic waiting for him :) But it put me in the holiday spirit to hit Bev-Mo today. I’ve been meaning to get a better stocked bar at my place. Especially now that I’m so addicted to Bombay Gimlets and Gin* & Tonics… so I got that and a few other goodies. And no, I won’t be drinking them at 9am before a regular work day :) ha!

*Note: yes, mostly Gin drinks for me… for some reason I don’t like the taste of vodka. I’m one of those who can drink tequila like a fish, but no vodka for me. A lot of people are the opposite. So gin it is!! Tell me if you have a favorite Gin (or anything but Vodka) drink you think I should try!

So while I’m in Bev-Mo, I call Rick just to make sure I’m not forgetting anything. Oy… Rick must think my credit card doesn’t really get charged at the liquor store cuz he had *plenty* of ideas :) Ah well… it’s an “investment for my future”, right? I even got myself a little cocktail shaker. My first one!! (aawww)

2. Dinner at Tin Pan tonite (yumm!!)

3. The Lovemakers at Cafe du Nord!

I’m bummed I didn’t get to listen to too many VUE or Persephone’s Bee’s songs before the show – but I don’t think it will matter. We’re ready to party no matter who, what & where!

4. Lastly, the fact that I’ll be with my favorite party/concert buddy :)

:::::::::::

Speaking of – I must post about what said buddy got me for Christmas!!!

grady gives good….

My friend Grady told me about Broken Social Scene awhile back… and I loved their show & love their CD. I even gave it to my Mom for Christmas!

Today he just pointed me to Volcano I’m Still Excited. They’re good. Listen to Grady!!!

I’m even jealous cuz he went to the On The Speakers show this weekend (while I was out drinking with my old high school friends in freezing cold Steamboat). He said they were good and that I should be jealous. Dammit!

I’ll work on updating the shows some time today. Since I just got in lastnight, my boss (me) gave me the day off. She kicks ass!

I’m back! WAHOO!!!!!!!!!

I am SOOOOO happy to be back. After an insane travel day: delayed flights, waiting on standby & *fortunately* getting on the flight – I’m finally home!!!!!!

Buddy boy snuggled me for 25 minutes STRAIGHT!!!!! He & I were sooo excited to see eachother… it was a LOVEFEST!!! :) xoxo

Now I’m off to go have a “Thank god I’m back home” drinky with some friends.

yay, I’m back! yay, I’m back! yay, I’m back! yay, I’m back!
