SUPER Furry Animals – try EXCELLENT!!!!!!!!!

OH MY GAWD did SFA totally f*in’ ROCK MY WORLD lastnight!!!!!! (had to delete about 20 other exclamation points that I typed… must. control. enthusiasm! :)

Mat, Brendan & I arrived early so we could hit “the lounge” (the restaurant & bar on the 2nd floor of the Fillmore) for dinner and drinks. They have REALLY good food at the Fillmore, FYI! Don’t be scared that you’re gonna get just some regular ol’ crap for that $10, it’s WORTH $10!! Tasty cuisine by excellent chefs, beautiful display and all!

Kristin showed up a bit later and we all sat, ate, drank and enjoyed the lounge act, Josh Fix & the Furious Force. They were pretty good… definitely good for the crowd of SFA/Grandaddy fans. Also to our delight we had an awesome fireworks show going on outside the window too!

Unfortunately we were all too engrossed in conversation and yummy food/drink to peek at Earlimart playing. Ah well, will have to catch them at a smaller venue sometime.. I’ve heard they’re good.

Ok – so now I get to the part where I will tell you how AWESOME SFA was!!!!!! I was LOVING IT!!!!!!! I couldn’t believe how psyched I was to see them, how awesome they are live and how excellent the media was on the screen behind the band > at one point they had this awesome old cartoon playing during one of the songs, I wish I knew the name of it… it’s that old b&w silent cartoon with the cows dancing and kissing and the cat bride & groom – where the groom accidently leaves the bride behind when he takes off in the rocket? sound familiar to anyone?

I actually was SOO into the music for SFA & Grandaddy, that most of the time I just closed my eyes… sometimes it’s good to have that visual media along with it (and probably really good for those who aren’t die hard fans yet to have something else to look at while they’re soaking in the new music) but I just wanted to be with the music. It was soooooo awesome.

SFA kicked out some serious ROCK when they cranked up their final song, The Man Don’t Give a Fuck, for a good 8 minutes. We were all on FIRE. There was also this awesome b&w video going on behind that – The whole damn show was soooooo f*cking great I can’t even tell you. They’re soooo rad that they can be all mellow and beautiful and then rawk so damn hard. Also there’s an aire of techo/synth going on that I normally wouldn’t be into at all – but with them & Grandaddy I absolutely got off on it.

After the SFA set ended, Brendan I were just buzzzzing with how amazing it was – and we couldn’t believe they were just the opener & we still had Grandaddy to see!!! What a night!!!

Grandaddy was AWESOME to see live. They’re extremely talented and it was WONDERFUL to hear some of my favorites played live and see the whole crowd of peeps just as thrilled as I was. The crowd was on fire for their two latest hits Now It’s On and I’m On Standby… I was singin along! They had EXCELLENT back drop visuals, too…. among some of the funky videos playing (some of which I just closed my eyes so I was fully with the music and not spacin out to the visuals) they had a ton of movies with kitties in them!! It’s hilarious – I think they love cats!! aww yaaa Let’s hear it for cutie kitties!!! hahhaaa I, of course, was lovin it.

Scott showed up to join us right before SFA – and I was psyched to run into my coeditor of BAM, Jake and his girlfriend, Amy. Oh! and my old neighbors (little kitty, Gladys’ parents) from Lundy’s Lane were there too.

It was a fantastic night.

wooooohooooooo!!!

Tonite starts my week of terrific live shows!!

First up is Super Furry Animals & Grandaddy @ the Fillmore! I saw Grandaddy open for Coldplay about a year or so ago, but didn’t know enough about them then.. but I’ve fallen in love with their new album Sumday (and then regressed back to Sophtware Slump). I’m also waay psyched to finally see Super Furry Animals play live – I have a feeling it will be a lot like seeing the Flaming Lips live, where you just a whole new level of appreciation for them. Earlimart is playing an early set, too, whom I haven’t seen yet and have heard great things about – I’m PSYCHED!!

Speaking of music, I’m still needing someone to join me for Rainer Maria tomorrow night! :)

seeking geeky blog help

Updated 9/19: I’m using blogrolling.com now & so far so good. A big thanks to Eoin, Jeff & Chris for your helpful emails!!

hi.

I want to use something like this, but all these words are a jumbly mess to me! Apparently I can set it up to tell me when blogs I read are updated? Very cool… but how!?

I’ll look at it again tomorrow after a good night’s sleep – but in the meantime if anyone wants to volunteer their brain to tell me how I can use it, lemme know.

I know a lot of you think I’m knee deep in taped-glasses land, but I haven’t yet gotten into the full force geekdome if I haven’t done this – just you wait! :)

ok sleeping now.

homeowners

I want to own my own home so bad. Hearing my friend Phil talk about how they painted their new homes walls all kinds of crazy colors this weekend, it sounds so fun!

If you’re a new homeowner, or have always dreamed of owning your own home… read this touching entry on AlextheGirl’s weblog. (she’s really cute too!)

I love finding new blogs – especially of girls around my age who are into the things I’m into… is that narcissistic? possibly. hahaa (justified: it’s human nature to be drawn to people who we relate to.) Anyway – I’ve found a few of those lately where I read their blogs and just think, “wow, she seems so cool… we should hang out!” :)

Pretty fun that that is just what I did with Jane – and now I’m good friends with a handful of lovely ladies right now that are just that!

Girls are fun. New friends are fun! How did I start talking about houses and end up talking about how much I love my new group of girlfriends? :p Life is delightful and surprising and the best part is that there’s always something new and exciting goin on. As some old co-workers of mine used to say: Welcome to Willo’s World.

a fun new activity for you & your cat!

Kazoo & I were just sitting around thinking of ways we can rekindle our relationship. What’s something fun we could do together? We should be active together… get out and experience something new! Like maybe take a dance class! Or start painting!

When we saw those we couldn’t help but laugh ourselves silly. Kazoo started playing with some string and I cracked open a beer and we’re still stuck in our same old patterns.

video killed the radio star…

I know my blog has been soo much about music lately. jeez – I wonder if I should start a seperate site about music? hmm… it’s a thought. anyway – I’m discovering new radio stations. I think I have really bad reception in my car, and most certainly on my Rio – cuz I’ve never heard of this local radio station, KUSF until recently. Where have I been? Obviously not listening to much radio with good reception. Go figure.

I discovered another cool station that streams on the internet, too: KXLU

Obviously I need to make a place for info like this, because once again I must remind you of one of the best stations that (fortunately) streams online: KEXP

I’m starting to get into The Walkmen (finally?). I’m sure I’m behind on this great find… are any of you out there big fans? Tell me about em – are they great live?

Well, unfortunately I just missed them play two shows here. I was really close to getting out of my pajamas tonite and heading down to Slims for their show. That’da been pretty hard core of me eh? Instead I’ll just get some of their music and hope they’re back here in 6 months.

p.s. On their site they have a photo of them “w/ pals, The French Kicks”…. nice! (the french kicks are opening for hot, hot heat for those of you not paying attention – they’re great!)

Oooh – so check this out! You know hottie (not to mention such a beaaautiful voice) Neko Case? She won as the “Sexiest Babe of Indie Rock“! awww yaaa she is!

I was also delighted to see Rainer Maria’s rocker chic, Caithlin De Marrais is up on there, too. Now I really have something to look forward to for this Friday’s show! :p On this contest they don’t give her the most glowing review for their talent – but if you’ve been listening to Rainer Maria, you’ll hear she’s getting a lot better. Their new EP is really excellent!
