Driving around today I think I probably listened to “Hospital Beds” by Cold War Kids about 8 times. Every time it finished, I simply wasn’t satisfied with having to hear any other song and *needed* to listen to this one again.

Did you see a girl driving around in a red Golf TDI today, beltin’ out lyrics in her own happy little world? That was me. :)

There’s nothing to do here
some just whine and complain
in bed in the hospital
coming and going
asleep and awake
in bed at the hospital

tell me the story
of how you ended up here
I’ve heard it all in the hospital
nothing’s sufficing
doctors on tour
somewhere in India

I’ve got one friend
laying across from me
I did not choose him
he did not choose me
(favorite lines to belt out)
we’ve got no chance of recovery
joy and hospital
joy and misery

put out the fire boys
don’t stop don’t stop
put out the fire on us

bring the buckets by the dozens
bring your nieces and your cousins
come put out the fire on us

we are now fish and chips
a tidy young opera

Gawd, they are SO good!! Go listen to it for yourself on the Cold War Kids Myspace page. Then come back here & view all my photos from this show… and be sure to check out Misty’s & Bagel Ted’s, too.

Beach Blanket Babylon!

Lastnight a whole crew of us Bloggers got to go see Beach Blanket Babylon! (Thanks Kevin!) I invited Aubrey as my +1 & we made reservations at The House to catch up, eat a yummy dinner & have a glass of wine before the show. Fun!

I had actually seen the show about 6 or 7 years ago, but was looking forward to seeing it again, because I knew they’d have updated it to reflect current events & pop culture references… and boy did they! It’s an understatement to say they’ve got a little of everything in this show. There were references that ranged from old news (Michael Jackson, N*SYNC & Brittany Spears, etc) to the very latest hot topics like iPods, Paris Hilton, Desperate Housewives and Devil Wears Prada. You never knew what would come out next, and the most entertaining part is how the hats & wigs just seem to get bigger & bigger as the show goes on! That’s gotta be a fun job. :)

All in all it is an over the top, campy, slap-on-the-knee type of show that keeps you entertained from the moment you sit down, and even evokes the occasional “oh my!” from the occasional lewd reference. The performers put their all into it & the audience absolutely loved it… especially the 3 girls behind us – they were cracking up!

This show is a do not miss for your out of town guests or family visiting. Or even just something different for you & a date, especially considering it’s a great reason to enjoy some yummy food & wine in North Beach while you’re at it! Oh, and speaking of wine, it’s cabaret style, so you can drink the whole time while watching the show, too. Might explain while the girls behind us were having such a good time. haha.

I unfortunately couldn’t stay for the tour, but it’s been fun checking out everyone’s photos with the cast on Flickr! Thanks again to Kevin & the Beach Blanket Babylon crew for having us!

celebrating independence

I drew this a few years ago… I love the little dog the most:

Even though I’ve been invited to a ton of BBQ’s, I think I knew from the start I didn’t want to go anywhere today. Today is *mine all mine* & I’m loving it!

After a great workout @ the gym I went & got a mani/pedi, and now I’m home taking care of bidness! Actually not any client stuff (except preparing a long overdue invoice I’ve been putting off), instead I’m diving into my creative stuff! Oh ya, I guess I had told you all about that… that I had originally planned to work on it Sunday. But after cleaning my disaster of a house and taking a hike up the hill, I had just enough time to take a shower before Brian stopped by after surfing. Neither of us thought he’d stay that long, but he did & it was really nice. Granted I didn’t get to dive into my projects, but I’m certainly not complaining as it was pretty nice to lounge around talking (and making out!) with a cute boy. hehe. It’s fun getting to know someone new. I’m enjoying it, if you can’t tell. ;)

Anyway, yesterday I worked & got a ton done & today is 100% my day. I absolutely love having a day to myself like this. All my clients/projects are all in a really good place, so I’m absolutely *reveling* in not being stressed. I’m celebrating my INDEPENDENCE! woohoo!

Funny because Ali just wrote a post saying practically the same thing – hehe!

Happy 4th, everyone!!
