This week is Noisepop! We kicked it off Tuesday night at the Noisepop Opening Night, a free show (and we were even VIP, aww yaa) at Mezzanine with Extra Action Marching Band, Har Mar Superstar & Tapes & Tapes!

Opening night consisted of: Free photobooth photos, free tshirts, free drinks, free posters, free ice cream and David Cross! suuweeeet! Those are all the makings of a great party!

The best part, as per usual, is running into so many people I know. Friends, fellow music fans, musicians, writers & editors, photographers, etc. So fun.

Last night the fun continued, for night two of Noisepop, where we hit the Sebadoh show at GAMH. Honestly I didn’t listen to Sebadoh “way back when”, but my friend had a ticket, and knowing how many close friends of mine are into them, I thought I’d check em out. They were good, but I gotta say, the opener The Bent Moustache was actually really good! They were sorta like Rage Against the Machine meets Art Brut. Which is the oddest of mashups, but I’m stoked to check them out some more.

The night ended at the good ol Edinburg Castle, playing darts. (I’m sorta getting good at them now!) And I’m looking forward to a full weekend of more shows! Autolux/Snowden on Friday, The Ponys on Saturday & Midlake on Sunday! The crazy thing is that when Noisepop ends on Sunday, I ship out to Austin for SXSW just 5 days later! *sigh* My life is so awesome.

When I was in elementary school, I used to check this book out from the library almost every single week!

I found this book again a year or so ago, and was so stoked. But it came up in conversation recently & so I had to take a photo.

Was anyone else out there as into it as me?

the future’s so bright (or wait, dim?)

I haven’t seen this movie yet (hilarious snippet from the movie Idiocracy below), but think I had discussed it briefly with someone, and then somehow took away from our conversation that we were discussing a very serious documentary about how our future is destined to have a decline in intelligence due to the lower social classes reproducing the majority of our future population, etc. Hilariously, since then I even referenced it to someone, having this big social-economical discussion around the topic, and told them I would try to find out what documentary it was. haha!

I still have yet to completely confirm that it was this movie I had discussed with someone, because the only way I found it tonight was by Googling a ton of different phrases, but in the process I found some other very interesting posts & books related to this same topic:

I find myself really interested in topics like this. Elements of this discussion are why I’m very Pro-Choice, have read books like Generations, and am on the whole, pretty unsure about bringing my own children into the world.

All that said, I’d like to think more positively about our future. It’s scary to think about the worst possible future, but I don’t necessarily think “this is our doom, period.”…Instead, I actually do believe our world is going through some pretty powerful awakenings and progressions that may surprise us all.

To me it’s fascinating food for thought and I hope we all take an ounce (or more) of responsibility for how much we’re adding to our world and our future. Cultivating, encouraging and supporting our human race to excel in intelligence (book smarts AND emotional intelligence), peaceful thinking, and helping/serving our fellow man so that we can all rise up together. It doesn’t take much!

THAT said, I think skepticism runs deep in conversations like this… and certainly it’s a heated topic on many layers. I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Well, Haylie & I’s long weekend has come to a close. I dropped her off at the airport today (shortly after we had a little leftover Emmy’s picnic), and she’s back to her life in Steamboat, and I’m back to my life… which is… well, full of work & responsibility. haha. Yup, kinda bittersweet. :)

We had a really fun time though overall… we hit a show, did some crafting, walked around bernal heights, hung out with friends, went shopping, had yummy breakfast, lunch & dinners out, watched a few movies, went to the beach, and more! I’m lucky to have such a sweet sis.

This is us, on Haylie’s first night here, with our good friends Mike, Trevor & Dave of HIJK (formerly Hijack the Disco). Big thanks to Trevor for getting Haylie on the guest list! She was so stoked, because not only had she met Trevor on her 2006 trip, but she got to see them play live at my favorite venue! woohoo!
