PNYE strikes again!

super wasted & one hit wonder woman

Going on it’s 17th year, Misty’s Procrastinator’s New Years Eve party was once again a total blast!

This year Misty rented out Club Six and this year’s theme was “Be Your Own Superhero/Evil Villian”. Everyone’s costumes were so incredible!

I, of course, waited till the very last minute to put my costume together (honestly barely rallied myself off my couch, but knew I couldn’t miss this one!), and after finding a skimpy dress & some trashy heels in my closet, and laying my makeup on thick, I thought ‘hmm, what could I be?’

Next thing I knew, I was smearing bright red lipstick off to the side, tacking my hair up all messy-like, and was transformed into *dun! dun! du duuun!* “Super Wasted!” haha! (I was also saying I could have easily just gone as “Super 6th St” cuz I fit RIGHT in down there on cracked out 6th Street! I swear nobody even looked at me twice.)

View all my photos from the party. And I’ve even posted the videos, too!

Want to see photos from PNYE years past?

Last year was ‘White Trash Fairy Tale‘, that unfortunately I was out of town for.
And the year before that, 2005, was 80’s Prom (my photos) (my first PNYE!), which was soooo fun! Misty’s photos of that one are here.

Costume parties rule & so does this group of friends. Thank you sooo much Misty & Ted for throwing this awesome bash! You guys are my superheros! xo

Thursday night we all went out to Bottom of the Hill, enjoyed 3 kick ass bands and celebrated the fabulousness that is Ted & his bad ass radio station: Bagel Radio.

Super fun because all of our friends were there, of course, so it was nothing short of super fun! I love my friends, and nights like these remind me just how awesome my life is! xoxo

post lily allen

Last week Ali, Sean, Ryan & I went to Lily Allen @ GAMH. It was pretty MTV’d out, which was kinda lame*, but other than that, fun to see Lily Allen perform live.

*the lamest part being that her 4-packs of buttons cost $10. jeeshk!

It was a super early show, so we were out by about 10:30, and after milling about outside for a bit we decided we should probably go have a drink at the Hemlock. :)

I only got a few photos of the show, but if you wanna see them click here. Sadly she didn’t dress up for us. haha. Speaking of, read Ali’s post on the show, too.

Picnik is this super cool little online tool that let’s you edit your photos & add special effects. I don’t necessarily need this (because I have fancy pants software that does these things), but I just went & checked it out for the fun of it & I have got to say it is way cool. Especially because it’s something you can use right online that works directly with flickr! Check it out!

Last night I went & joined my peeps for the Rademacher show @ Hotel Utah. Jess was there earlier, which sadly I don’t have a photo of since she’s off on a trip for the next 2 weeks! But great to see my girls, and, as you can see, Cameron even showed up later in the evening!

Rademacher did not dissapoint. They had such a fun, playful feel to their set, it was enjoyable to watch them and you could tell they were having fun. Super nice guys, too! The Lovely Public opened, and they were awesome! We bought their CD and I can’t wait to have Ted listen to them. It’s one of the best feelings to discover a new great band. Super fun night! I heart The Blow

Khaela of The Blow
Originally uploaded by Willo.

The Blow opened for Of Montreal on Friday night (the only show she opened for, out of the 4 total they played around town), but we lagged on buying tickets and next thing we knew it was totally sold out.

But, we’re hard core ;), so we went out front & tried our luck at finding night of tix. Talk about luck, we ended up meeting a guy who needed to get rid of dinner tickets, and sold his two extras to us for $50 total! (originally $40/each + the fees). I was SO stoked! Plus, that meant we actually got sweet balcony reserved seating, and dinner – which was actually really really good! sweet!

The Blow is basically Khaela, who you see above, and the tracks she sings along to are mixed by a guy named Yacht (but apparently since it’s already been produced, he gets to stay at home). Regardless, she was very entertaining all on her own.

Her performance was kind of like a story… which at one point I was a little bit like ‘uh, less talk, more rock’ because I love her beautiful (singing) voice so much… but all in all I was in heaven seeing her live finally.

‘Hey Boy’ is one of my favorite songs, and it was so great live! yay! Go listen to it here.

::::

Of Montreal was good, but honestly I can’t get into them live as much as I would like. I’ve seen them before and had the same feeling. I think there’s some kind of disconnect for me in their affected performance… it makes me want to ask them “Of Montreal, who are you!?” I guess I don’t get it. Love them on CD though!

bee & I in the sun

bee & I in the sun
Originally uploaded by Willo.

I lived with Bee, in her beautiful Russian Hill flat, back when I was 21, and she was 72. She had always been a spry, quick witted, independent lady… and a dear friend. Sadly, in the last 5 years, Bee’s health has declined dramatically. After having a stroke, and then pneumonia, her body strength has deteriorated, and so has the clarity of her memories and thoughts.

Recently they moved her to a convalescent home near my house, so I went over there on Friday and got to spend some time with her. I brought her photos and tried to talk to her… but she was quiet and confused, saying she thought her son had died in a plane crash. oy. :(

So I promised her I would have him come visit her with me… and her son, Joe, and I met for coffee and then went to visit with her on Saturday. She was so happy to see him.

After knowing Bee for so long, it’s so hard to see her like this. Especially because we know she’s conscious enough to know she’s not happy with it either. I plan to go visit her every weekend or every other weekend. She likes me to bring her a good cup of coffee. :)

Here’s a few more photos from our visit.

why do i fight my emotions?

seriously, i feel like i am soo good at being intimate and loving, but so bad at dealing with my own vulnerability and insecurities. i think that’s because intimacy and love is more in the present, and the present me is a fairly confident, secure person. so those feelings stem from who i am today, but insecurities and all the feelings of fear in vulnerability, all of that stirs up the past… baggage from past relationships, family, etc. ya think?

dammit! relationships are so complicated. or maybe i’m just the complicated one. arg.

addendum: the good news is, i’m willing to look at it & figure it out. one step at a time.
